Gidget Pro Sunset Flashback - Bethany Hamilton Wild Card

The 2009 Gidget Pro Sunset Beach Hawaii will be remembered as probably one of the best women's pro events ever held! The press generated around the globe has continued a year later.

One story that didn’t get huge coverage because she got over shadowed by the World Champion being crowned was the widecard invite by Gidget Worldwide for Bethany Hamilton. She fearlessly attacked the massive waves with skill and grace like nobody in history ever has... with only one arm! The world knows her story and has embraced her as a hero that has overcome a injury that would have 99.9% of us standing on the sidelines thinking “what if?”.  Her fan base crosses all generations and demographics. Gidget is proud of Bethany's effort and looks forward to the 2010 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

Flash back to Summer

Gidget Pro Waikiki 2010
The 9th annual Duke's OceanFest 2010 completed four days of competition that including 10 ocean  sport events and 900 athletes from around the Pacific, all in celebration of Hawaii's ultimate waterman: Duke Kahanamoku. While there is a swag of prize money and prestigious titles on the line, all 900 athletes participating this week will tell you that the true lure of OceanFest is to surf in honor of Duke and enjoy the same ocean playground where he grew up popularizing all of the ocean sports featured this week, and sharing his aloha with the world.

Gidget Worldwide was there for the 2nd year in a row and crowned California's Julie Whitegon, 45, as the Queen of Queens at the 2010 Gidget's Pro Longboard. Of course, Julie, loved the first place cash, but the cherry on top was the Classic Sporting Goods skateboard she won. She was offered cash for the board before she even left the beach.

"The Duke's OceanFest is always a nice event to come to for two reasons," explained Whitegon. "One, it's in Hawaii and I always look forward to coming out here, and No. 2, the feeling of aloha just surrounds you. This is a great event."

The Live global webcast was at dukefoundation.org and was televised around Hawaii on Oceanic Time Warner Cable.
